We are eagerly looking forward to our Blue & Gold Banquet with Webelos Bridging Ceremony is coming up this Sunday, February 27th! 4-6pm at the SJC Community Center! 

 

We will be participating in SJC's Swallows Day Parade on March 12th! Please see our Pack calendar for more details!

 

As mentioned in our last parent meeting, the State of California has passed a new law requiring volunteers and staff of Youth Service Organizations to complete a separate Child Protection Training and undergo Live Scan background checks. This applies to ALL committee members in Pack 12. Please complete this requirement asap and email lindsaymcgaughey@gmail.com your certificate when complete!

2021 End of Year Announcements

Welcome to the LAST Week of 2021!   

      

WEEK IN REVIEW

  • We had a wonderful pack Christmas party and installed our new Committee Chair (Lindsay), Tiger DL (Jeremy), and Wolf DL (John).
  • We awarded the Arrow of Light award (Cub Scouting's highest honor) to 4 of our boys:  David, Brody, Jude, and Sawyer.  Congratulations guys!
  • We placed Christmas wreaths on veterans' graves as part of the Wreaths Across America program.
  • Holiday Greenery fundraiser profits have been distributed.  See Barrett if you didn't get yours.
  • Barrett purchased the tickets for Monster Jam and will send those out to the families soon.  If you missed the deadline but would like to sit with us, we are sitting in Angels Stadium Section 258, Rows J, K, and L
  • Barrett purchased our USS Midway overnighter passes, so if you signed up for that on the calendar item, you're good to go.  More info coming soon.
  • Barrett emailed out the 2021 "State of the Pack report" today.  Email him if you didn't get it.

  • We'd like to have a 2022 kick-off hike somewhere, but we need someone to take the lead and plan the location and time.  Any takers?

January 23:  Pinewood Derby and Pack meeting -- RSVP here

  • Location is at the "Limo Barn" at Reata park:  28632 Ortega Hwy, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675 
  • Rules are posted on the calendar item.  Make sure you follow them or your son's car won't be eligible for a prize.
  • Car kits have been distributed.  Contact your den leader if you need one.
  • Volunteers are needed:
    • To help Matt and Larry set up and run the actual race.  
    • To help Lindsay and John plan and run the pack meeting portion of the event.
    • Contact them to let them know how you will help!

 

LOOKING AHEAD:

 Recruiting

  • We're looking for a parent (or two) to be the Recruiting and Membership Chair for 2022.  If you like to coordinate activities, send emails, and welcome new families to the pack, then this is the job for you!  You can even share the job with one or two others in a sub-committee fashion!
    • This role is REALLY important to the pack, because we need to do a bunch of recruiting this first half of 2022.  It's mostly about word-of-mouth recruiting by our pack members, and getting messages to schools and churches.
    • There are many families out there looking for ways to keep their boys active -- we just have to find them and introduce ourselves!
    • See Lindsay if you're interested in talking about the role. 

 

THE PACK NEEDS YOU!

    • One huge influencer on the success of recruiting for the other pack is the power of word-of-mouth recruiting by their parents.  It's the single-most effective thing they do.  We need to improve on this ourselves.  Each family is our most important recruiting tool.  Please talk to the parents at your school, church, ball team, etc.  It's your enthusiasm for scouting and our pack that convinces parents to give us a try!  Please go talk to some of those people this week, and have them reach out to Lindsay McCarthy for information.
    • Now that we're all stuck at home, it's the perfect time to email or call friends and ask them about their interest in Scouting.  You can also spend more time forwarding our pack's Facebook page to them.  
    • We are getting some responses from our boosted Facebook posts.  But we're getting even more interest from families that YOU share the posts with.  Please "like" our packs FB page and "share" it often. 
    • Use "@sjcpack12" when you write on FB about us!

New Pack 12 COVID-19 Policy and Procedures

To all Pack 12 families,

Pack 12 has adopted the policy and procedures found in this document.  It applies to all pack and den activities and to all youth and adults who attend them.

We've enjoyed staying active as a pack during the past year, unlike many Scouting units.  Those units are struggling to keep their kids in Scouting because of that.  We don't want that to happen to Pack 12!

Our ability to remain active and doing in-person pack and den meetings relies on each and every one of us.  Masks must be worn at all times.  Social distance must be maintained.  Hands must be kept clean.  These are simple things to do, but they have a huge effect on our pack's future.

Please do your part -- follow the rules and speak up when you see others forgetting to follow them.

Blue & Gold Banquet and Bridging Ceremony this Sunday!

It is time for our annual Blue and Gold Banquet and Arrow-of-Light Bridging Ceremony!  
 
This is a time when our pack can come together and celebrate the anniversary of Cub Scouting, reflecting on the great things Cub Scouting offers our boys. 
This year our theme will be “Camping”.  We will have some fun games and prizes planned for the boys to enjoy, and dinner will be served.  It will be pot-luck, and everyone will be given the chance to choose what item they'll bring from a list (to be provided later).  Please use the "register" or "regrets" button on this website so we know how many to plan for!
 
We will also be honoring our Webelos II scouts who are moving on up to Troop 12 Boy Scouts in a bridging ceremony.  This is the culmination of their Cub Scout journey, and we celebrate their achivements and wish them the very best in their Boy Scout adventure.
 
This is an event you will not want to miss!

Let's go to Medieval Times together!

If you're interested in attending Medieval times as a group, we have chosen March 7th at 330pm as the show.  

COST:  Scouts who were given the prize certificates for popcorn sales are free.    $39 if we have 15 or more paying attendees (adults, siblings, etc).   If we have 10 or less, the price jumps to $69.  Fortunately, we can cancel up to 10 days before and get our money back.

HOW TO ORDER:   Call Medieval Times at Buena Park (714-521-2342), and tell them that you're with "Cub Scout Pack 12" for the 3:30pm show on March 7th.  Tell them that you would like to "claim" adult tickets and youth tickets that our pack has reserved.  Tell them that you have a free ticket for your scout (if he earned one), and tell them how many other adult and child tickets you'd like to order.  (They promise that they'll still take our scout vouchers, even though the vouchers say "no saturdays")  Pay them directly then.  Be sure to bring your scout's voucher to the event!

HOW TO HELP US KEEP TRACK OF WHO'S COMING:  AFTER YOU HAVE CALLED MEDIEVAL TIMES AND CLAIMED YOUR TICKETS WITH THEM, use the "register" or "regrets" buttons on this calendar item page to let us know how many of you are coming.  

I can't wait!  It's gonna be awesome!
